Rehabilitated property on Marquette Street

Racine, Wisconsin- a newly created minority-led construction company has recently completed a rehabilitation project at 1017 Marquette Street.

This project involved more than the reconfiguration of bricks and mortar, it represented a statement of hope for the revitalization of our community and the restoration of the lives of individuals that were fighting to redeem themselves from past mistakes. The Project Manager, Phillip Kidd, was a former drug dealer and user that was facing 25 years to life for his past transgressions.

Upon learning about the potential of rehabbing the house on Marquette Street and training summer workers through the Racine County’s “E3” Program, Phillip Kidd embarked on a crusade of redemption to help others avoid the past mistakes of his life.
The Judge decided that rather than send him away to jail, the new course of his life and the mentorship that he provided to youth workers warranted him receiving a second chance. He received two years probation rather than a sentence of 25 years to life.

The property on Marquette Street was completely gutted and remodeled with evidence of professionalism and quality work on the exterior of the home and throughout the interior. The home was given to Project New Life Community Development as a gift from the late County Board Supervisor, Michael J. Miklasevich who strongly believed in the vision of the Executive Director, Pastor Elliott K. Cohen and looked for ways to help him fulfill a dream of transforming Racine County and the City of Racine into an oasis of hope.

The property development has been responsible for creating 10 part-time jobs throughout the summer of 2009 into the fall of 2010. In addition, more than 12 youth workers from the Racine County “E3” Program gained meaningful construction experience at this site from Phillip Kidd. A newly created minority construction company called “Kingdom Construction” was launched through this project.

The property located at 1017 Marquette Street is currently for sale and is listed with Debra Price of Shorewest Realtors. An open house is scheduled for Sunday, May 16th 2010 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the property location. For more information, contact Debra Price at 262- 488-8888.
